Brain Quest Initiative

Helping young people understand the brain, mental health, and coping strategies through science, creativity, and play.

Many young people face mental health challenges before they have the language, support, or safe spaces to talk about them. Early mental health education can reduce stigma, correct misinformation, and help young people recognise when support is needed.

The Brain Quest Initiative brings interactive brain and mental health education to young people across Ghana. Through guided video sessions, creative arts activities, and team-based challenges, participants learn how the brain connects to emotions, behaviour, coping, and everyday wellbeing.

Three-part approach

  1. Learn the brain

Students explore the brain, common mental health conditions, causes, symptoms, and behavioural effects through guided video-based sessions led with mental health expertise.

  2. Build and connect

Students use clay dough, colours, and cardboard to create 2D brain models and connect brain regions to experiences such as anxiety, depression, trauma, and substance abuse.

  3. Practice through play

Brain maps, puzzles, and team-based challenges help students recognise harmful patterns, understand coping strategies, and reinforce what they learned.

How We Create Change

Our work is built on three pillars that together create lasting impact in the lives of young people.

Education

We believe knowledge is power. Through workshops, school programs, and webinars, we equip young people with the tools to understand mental wellbeing, navigate challenging phases of life, and build resilience. Our educational content sparks curiosity, self-reflection, and personal growth.

Culture

Rooted in stories, traditions, and creative expression, our cultural pillar helps youth stay grounded in who they are. From storytelling sessions to cultural experiences, we celebrate heritage, identity, and the lessons that shape confident, empathetic individuals.

Community

Growth happens best together. Beyond our programs, we foster a supportive community where young people can connect, share, and feel a true sense of belonging. Together, we create safe spaces that empower vulnerability, build resilience, and strengthen social bonds.

Our Story

Built by Young People, for Young People

"Grow With Grit started from something we both noticed growing up - young people carrying a lot, often without the words, tools, or safe spaces to process it. Strength was seen as endurance, pushing through and staying quiet, but we've learned that coping with life's challenges takes more than toughness."
